A spacious Edwardian bedroom with a 1920’s bedroom suite is located on the second floor at the top of the grand staircase. 9 foot ceilings, unfinished softwood floors, oriental wool area rugs, stained vertical grain Douglas Fir trim, Craftsman green walls and antique lighting set the mood for this historic bedroom, It is perfect for a romantic escape! This room was originally for Dr. Toivo and Alli Forsstrom. Dr. Forsstrom was a well known local physician and surgeon. Alli was an Astorian socialite and first lady of the house. She was elected Astoria Regatta Queen in 1914. Room features are as follows:

Historic private bathroom with a cast iron six foot soaking tub and large console sink. Note there is NO shower.

The Blue room

Located on the second floor off the upstairs sitting room. This medium sized bedroom was the bedroom of Vivienne Northe, the step daughter of Dr. Forsstrom. She was the daughter Dr. Forsstrom’s second wife, Nelma Mattson Northe. Room features are as follows:

 

Massive 1906 three piece bedroom set with FULL sized bed. The set was a family heirloom donated to the Forsstrom House for stewardship.

Antique and vintage lighting

Closet for hanging clothes. Set of three coat hooks near the door for hanging.

This room shares a bathroom with the Rose Room if it is occupied. The shared bath is under construction and will be completed by April 2024.

Double casement windows with view of the Astoria waterfront. The vintage lace curtains decorate with window and can be swung away to reveal the view that is a bit obscured by the massive Western Red Cedar. In season, one can hear the sea lions barking at the Bouy Beer pier, located immediately downhill on the waterfront!

The Rose room

The coziest of the upstairs bedrooms is near the service staircase on the east end of the upstairs sitting room. It is currently under renovation and will be open in 2026. The room features are as follows:

 

An antique brass twin size bed from the Seattle Archdiocese.

Period antique furniture and lighting

Shared bathroom with the Blue Room with shower. The shared bath is under construction and will be completed by April 2024.

Private access to a second story balcony with a view of the waterfront.

Ample natural morning light from east and south facing sets of casement windows.

 

the formal dining room

The formal dining room seats six to eight guests. It is an elegant room for meals and socializing. The eleven foot ceiling features a large brass eight light chandelier with ceiling medallion. A late Victorian wallpaper frieze from Bradbury and Bradbury decorates the upper walls. The east wall features a decorative “Great Wall of China” with vintage and antique blue and white china and porcelain. Each plate is a souvenir or has meaning to our family. A bank of four large interior windows and set of French doors looks to the View Room with views of the Astoria waterfront. For formal occasions, antique and vintage china, glassware, and silverware is used.

The View Room

The View Room is a long and narrow north facing room with fifteen windows and five doors! The original formal dining room chandelier of the Forsstrom’s was recently identified, restored and installed in the View Room! The view of the Astoria waterfront is magnificent in all conditions and weather. It is a nice place to sit at a counter facing the river or relax in the comfortable chaise lounge. Use the binoculars or telescope to look at the sights. There is always something to see on the Astoria waterfront.

the main salon, library and Music room

The main salon features Craftsman style mahogany woodwork and columns, 1894 river rock fireplace, and beveled glass mahogany doors. It is decorated in “Oregon Lodge” style with Pendleton blankets in the 1926 Harding pattern, comfy leather sofa and antiques. A 1911 Seth Thomas mantle chimes on the hour and dings at the half hour. The large mahogany framed mirror belonged to Dr. Forsstrom and is original to the house.
